Loukoumades(Greek Donuts)

Deep fried bite sized Greek sweet puffs (Greek Donuts) deep-fried and soaked in sugar or honey syrup sprinkled with cinnamon and crushed nuts. Greek Dessert Loukoumades Recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup All Purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp Cornflour
  • 1 tsp Instant Yeast
  • 1 Cup Water make dough

For Sugar Syrup

  • 1.5 Cup Water
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1/4 tsp Cinnamon Powder optional

Instructions

  • Mix together flour, corn flour and yeast together and add water to form a thick batter.
  • Keep the batter covered in a warm place and let it rise.
  • Once batter rises it will be frothy or bubbly.
  • Heat oil in a kadhai or thick bottomed pan, when the oil is hot enough, drop small portions of batter in oil and fry till golden brown. 
  • Once the balls are deep fried, add to the warm sugar syrup, let it stand for few minutes, once the balls soak syrup, take out of the syrup and arrange in a plate to serve.
  • To make sugar syrup, heat water, cinnamon and sugar to a pan, boil the syrup for 5 minutes. take off the heat and keep aside to cool. 

Notes

Add dough balls to the warm syrup.
You can also drizzle  warm honey on the fried balls or drizzle some chocolate syrup and enjoy these with vanilla ice cream. Do not add to the warm syrup.
