Chilled Jal Jeera with Boondi

Equipment

Ingredients
  

  • 12-15 Mint Leaves(Pudina)
  • Coriander/Cilantro Leaves(Dhaniya) handful
  • 1 tbsp Cumin Seeds/Powder
  • 1 tsp Fennel Seeds/Powder
  • 1 tsp Dry Mango Powder(Amchoor)
  • Black Salt as per taste
  • 1 tbsp Tamarind Concentrate or small piece of dry tamarind
  • ½ piece Lemon
  • ½ Ginger piece
  • Chilled Water as required

Ingredients to make Jaljeera Powder

  • 2 tbsp Roasted Cumin Powder
  • 1 tbsp Fennel Powder
  • 2-3 tbsp Dried Mint Leaves (grind to fine powder)
  • 1 tsp Dry Mango Powder
  • ½ tsp Black Pepper Powder
  • 1 tsp Jaggery Powder or powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tsp Black Salt/Kala Namak/Himalayan Pink Salt- (taste the spice mix and check)

Instructions
 

Make fresh Jaljeera

  • Wash Mint and Cilantro leaves, nicely so that dust particles are washed away.
  • In  a blender, add all the ingredients along with about ½ cup water and blend to smooth mixture.
  • Pour out into a jug or big bowl add 3-4 cups chilled water along with ice cubes. Squeeze some lemon juice(as required). Serve immediately or and it to chill for 1-2 hrs(don't add ice cubes if not serving immediately).
  • Add some boondi while serving.

How to make Jaljeera Powder

  • Mix all the ingredients together and store in an airtight glass jar.

To make Jaljeera using Jaljeera Powder

  • Take about 1 tbsp of Jal Jeera Powder and add to 1 glass of chilled water.
  • Squeeze ½ lemon and add ice cubes. Add boondi and serve.

Notes

If using Tamarind ball, soak it in about 1/2 cup lukewarm water for 10 mins. Then rub the dried tamarind with fingers and extract the pulp.
