If you love Strawberries and if you love salads then this is just the perfect one for you. Try it and this is going to be your forever favourite salad.
The salad is so easy and quick to make and the recipe is adaptable to your choice, availability of the ingredients and budget friendly too. The salad is incredibly delicious and loaded with nutrients.
Me and my daughter love salads and this one is one of her favourite. The crunchy salad greens with juicy strawberries tossed in homemade balsamic vinaigrette with chilli flakes hits all the right notes of the taste buds!
We love to have it as a mini light meal. I also love to use the leftovers if any as sandwich filling in multigrain sandwich bread, with this creamy cilantro avocado dip/spread, that I love to have with grilled veggies.
Ingredients for Strawberry Feta Salad
Strawberries- Juicy Fresh Red Strawberries. Don't use frozen ones, not suitable for this salad.
I also added one kiwi , this is totally optional. You can add other berries as per choice.
Salad Greens- I used a mix of Baby Spinach, Iceberg and red leaf lettuce, Peppery Rocket leaves/Arugula. Choose fresh bright green leaves. We love crunchy Iceberg lettuce and love to add it salads, sandwiches and wraps. You can use any of your favourite salad greens in any combination.
Feta Cheese- We love Feta Cheese and it pairs perfectly with the juicy fruits like strawberries, Watermelon and Tomatoes(yes tomato is a fruit but used as veggie).
Balsamic Vinaigrette- I used my homemade vinaigrette, you can use the store bought or any other dressing of you choice. I will suggest some light sweet and tangy dressing with citrusy tones(with lemon or orange), my another preferred choice for the salads.
Seeds and Nuts- I topped the salad with Chia seeds but you can use any of your favourite nuts or seeds like pumpkin or roasted flax seeds.

Substitutes for the ingredients and Optional Ad-ons
Salad Greens-Add your choice of salad greens. Baby Kale or a bag of Spring Greens mix, any other variety of Lettuce.
Seeds and Nuts-Roasted Almonds, Walnuts, Pecans, Cashew nuts, Pine nuts,Pumpkin, Roasted Flax Seeds are great options to add the crunch.
Cheese- Goat Cheese or Blue Cheese. Herbed cheese tastes great in salads.
Protein- Herbed Paneer/Indian Cottage Cheese, lightly sauteed tofu or any grilled meat of your choice is perfect to add in the salad.
Croutons or toasted bread /herbed bagel bites for the additional crunch. Add it just before serving the salad.
Others- Olives, pickled Jalapenos, Red Bell Pepper
Homemade Balsamic Vinaigrette
I love this homemade Balsamic Vinaigrette made with all the readily available ingredients in your pantry. I can adjust the sweetness and add some spicy tones as per taste.
It is a keeper recipe and you can make a batch keep the bottle on your dining table and always add to salads, marinades or drizzle on roasted/ grilled veggies.
Balsamic Vinegar- Choose a good quality vinegar. It may cost you a few bucks more but it worth paying the amount. Want the dressing taste, just like the one served at your favorite restaurant.. do invest in a quality brand.
Olive Oil- Usually for a good dressing the ratio of oil to vinegar /acid part of dressing is 3:1. Go But I add a little oil(3:2 ratio). Go ahead with 3:1 ratio or like me add oil as preferred. But make sure the amount of oil used should not be less then the vinegar.
Black Pepper and Chilli Flakes- We love spicy tones to our salad dressings. You can skip Chill Flakes if you do not want a spicy dressing or add as required.
Jaggery Powder- For the hint of sweetness and to adjust the slight tangy taste of vinegar.
Substitutes for the Vinaigrette Ingredients
Skip Balsamic Vinegar if you can't source it and add any good plant based vinegar. I love using apple cider and pomegranate. Get more classy with Red Wine Vinegar!!
Freshly squeezed Lemon juice or Orange juice also works well in the recipe.
Substitute Maple Sugar , Brown Sugar/Coconut Sugar for jaggery powder(Vegans). Non-Vegans can also ue Honey.
Optional Add ons in the vinaigrette-
Add some dried herbs(fresh or dried) like rosemary or oregano.
Dijon Mustard,
Minced Garlic,
Finely chopped Shallots/Onions
How to make Strawberry Feta Salad with Salad Greens and Homemade Vinaigrette
Prepare the dressing. If making a big batch, then store in a jar/bottle with a tight lid.
Cut the green tops of strawberries and slice the way you like to have it.
Take clean and dry leaves. You can soak the leaves(spinach and rocket leaves) in chilled water for a couple of mins before making salad. Then dpat ry lightly on a paper napkin or kitchen towel.
Add sliced strawberries, salad greens.
Add dressing, walnuts and mix everything coating all pieces equally. Take care not to bruise the leaves.
Serve immediately.
Can we prepare the Strawberry and Feta salad in advance and how long can we store it
Do not add dressing to salad few minutes before serving it. If you are planning to make it in advance then store the chopped strawberries in a separate box, mixed salad greens in another box. Prepare the dressing and add only before serving it. As, the greens will start wilting as soon as you add dressing to salad due to the salt present,
Planning to pack it for lunch?? pack the salad and dressing separately and mix just before having it.
Do not store dressed salad for long . Try to finish it the same day or leftovers the next day.
Serving Suggestions
Serve this sweet and tangy salad just like that as a mini meal. Serve as side with your favourite bread and soup or simply use it as sandwich fillings (I love to have the leftovers this way).
