What is Lassi
Lassi is Indian Yogurt drink that is consumed since ancient times, to cool down the body especially during summer season. It is the original smoothie with so many new variations adapted to present times.
Lassi has two variations Sweet Lassi and Salty Lassi. As a kid I always loved sweet Plain Lassi or Mango Lassi. But now I prefer a mix of both sweet and salty flavors.
Traditional Lassi preparations have only 3 main ingredients.. Yogurt/Dahi, water to adjust the consistency and sugar or salt. But now you can choose so many variations from fruits lassi, nuts lassi, even Chocolate Lassi. The best thing about this yogurt drink is that most of the fruit flavors gel very well together. I decided to make this Vit. C rich Kiwi Lassi simple jeera masala, fresh mint and cilantro leaves.
Initially I had planned with Basil leaves but this time I couldn't find any fresh basil leaves in the store so added mint leaves. I love the fresh flavor of basil leaves. You can add basil leaves as these go well with the kiwi flavor and add a refreshing taste to smoothies, shakes and lemonade.
Today I present you my version of another fruity Lassi with sweet and salty and masala flavors. With mint leaves I decide it to give it a rustic Indian touch by adding my Jal Jeera Powder, that I keep handy for sprinkling on yogurt, salads or add in chilled drinks.
Checkout this Pineapple Mint Lassi with tropical flavors.
Jal Jeera, is another traditional summer drink with flavors from Cumin, Cilantro and Mint. It is prepared form fresh leaves but you can always make spice mix or Dry Jal Jeera Powder and add to a glass of chilled water with some ice cubes.
You can add this Jeera Masala to salads, raita or on fruits. It is good for digestion and cumin seeds cools down the body heat.
Lassi and Jal Jeera and two of the most popular summer drinks in North India and I have added the new age Kiwi Fruit to for the fusion Kiwi and Jal Jeera Lassi!!
How to make Kiwi Mint Lassi
It's a very simple and quick recipe, which can be prepared in 5 minutes using your hand blender or blender.
To make delicious lassi use chilled yogurt and chilled water. Many people add ice cubes also, but I don't like adding ice cubes it makes lassi too watery once ice cubes melts
If Kiwis are too sour add adjust the sugar level and kiwis accordingly.

What an innovative recipe! I don't think I have ever had kiwi in a lassi before. The addition of jal jeera masala to the lassi is a brilliant idea. Would definitely love to try this out some time. 🙂
