About the Recipe

Tropical Smoothie Bowl is one of the our favourite smoothie bowl as it has my kids' favourite fruits Mango Papaya and Pineapple. Yes, my kids love Papaya also!! I summers when mangoes are in season this s one of our favourite recipe with mango. They love to top it with granola and even their crunchy almond cornflakes.

This tropical smoothie bowl is not only filling and delicious but also very healthy. Loaded with vitamins, antioxidants, fibers and naturally sweetened with sugar in fruits (can add more if you want) it's a healthy treat for your whole family.

Mango and Papaya are rich source of Vit. A, fibers and antioxidants. Pineapple contains a digestive enzyme. these tropical fruits are good for digestive system, help in increasing the immunity and add roughage to our diet.

What are Smoothie Bowls

Smoothies are creamy and thick beverage made by pureeing fruits or vegetables or both with a variety of ingredients. Nuts, nut butter, oats, dairy or non-dairy milk /yogurt or fruit juices are added to enhance the nutritional value, taste and texture.

Smoothie Bowls are more nutrient dense smoothies served in bowl and eaten with spoon. A smoothie bowl is topped with additional ingredients like granola, nuts, more chopped fruits, seeds.

A smoothie bowl is fun way to include multiple fruits in your diet. If you or your kids are bored of regular breakfast cereals or fruit bowls for snack time, try this colorful smoothie bowl. It is a treat not only to the taste buds but also to your eyes!!

Smoothie Bowls can be compared to macro nutrient based balanced mini meals, with all the food groups included in it. Smoothie bowls can be calorie loaded also if we do not choose our ingredients judiciously.

Ingredients for Tropical Fruits Smoothie Bowl

Fruits-Fresh sweet and juicy fruits Mango, Pineapple, Papaya. Freeze the fruit chunks before pureeing. Due to the heat of grinder many times the fruit or vegetable heats up. So it is better to add ice cubes or use frozen fruit whole pureeing. I prefer frozen fruits as it gives a very nice ice cream like creamy texture to smoothie.

You can add banana also which adds richness to smoothies. I avoid banana in smoothies when I am adding papaya. As per, Ayurveda banana and papaya aren't the right food combination. It can cause indigestion and upset when combined together.

Nuts/Nut Butter- I have added 8-10 soaked and peeled almonds. You can also use 1 tbsp of Almond butter. Peanut butter doesn't gel up with the taste of fruits here, so I do not prefer it using in the recipe.

Coconut Milk- Added for the liquid part and also adds creamy texture and nutty taste to smoothie.

You can also add good protein powder or supplement if you are using any).

Sweetener- Fruits are naturally sweetened, but if the fruits are not very sweet or the pineapple/mango are a bit tart then you can add some raw sugar like honey, maple sugar. You can also add jaggery powder, date syrup or coconut sugar.

Toppings for Tropical Smoothie Bowl

Granola or Muesli, chopped nuts(any of your choice), seeds(like chia, pumpkin, flax etc.), coconut flakes or shredded fresh coconut adds perfect tropical touch to the smoothie.

Add more of the chopped fruit pieces(save some before pureeing), strawberries or blueberries, kiwi etc.

Arrange the toppings in an artistic way to make it more appealing!!

Smoothie bowls are the latest Instagram trend these days. You can check out beautifully decorated smoothie bowls with exotic fruits and veggies and come out of your own fruit combination and flavors.

I keep batch of homemade Granola or granola bars always ready. It takes care of kids sudden hunger pangs or for their lunch boxes. Me and hubby love to top smoothies or have it with milk. Homemade granola is a more health friendly option when compared with store bought one.

How long can we make ahead and store smoothies/smoothie bowl

We can make ahead smoothies for smoothie bowl and store it in refrigerator for 1-2 days(max.) or freeze for about a month. I like to make my smoothies /smoothie bowl fresh and finish up the same day.

You can freeze fruits 1-2 days ahead and make it on the day when you want to have it.

Freeze smoothie in ice cubes or small portions, blend with liquid(milk/yogurt or coconut milk) and serve with your favourite toppings.
