Baked Potato Wedges


Baked Potato Wedges, a great snack, appetizer or a side dish. Ideal for the times when you want some mess-free cooking.Favorite among the kids and liked by grown-ups too, a simple and easy recipe to go with your soups, barbeques or burgers. Better and less oily option to everyone’s favorite french fries. Last weekend I had made some garlic knots with leftover pizza dough and had planned soup for the evening as it was very cold outside. We had late lunch just wanted to have something light, just to fill us up. But my younger asked me to make french fries.  I was in no mood for oily stuff, so baked potato wedges. It takes very less time to bake, tastes delicious even with little seasoning of salt and chilli flakes and some black pepper. He had without complaining along with his favorite soup and garlic bread knots.My elder one is a no-fuss teenager and happily eats whatever I make.

Coming back to the wedges, let’s get quickly to the ingredients and the quick method to make these.


Potatoes(Large): 3-4

Garlic– 1 Tsp

Chilli Flakes–1 Tsp(or use as required)

Dried Oregano or Parsley–1 Tsp

Salt as per taste

Olive Oil–2-3 Tbsp


Pre-heat the oven to 425°F or 220°C.

Wash and clean the potatoes very nicely cleaning away all the dirt from the skin.

Cut potatoes lengthwise into half, then cut each half into thirds. So one potato gives you around 6 wedges. Take care to cut equal size for even baking.

If you are not immediately baking the wedges, put the wedges in cold water as to avoid the browning of raw potatoes.

Take wedges in a bowl and add oil, some melted butter(yes.. with butter it gets the buttery taste and some more crispness too but it’s optional). Add the seasoning(salt, chilli flakes, and black pepper). Coat the wedges nicely with spices. Oil helps to evenly coat the seasoning/spices on the wedges.

You can also add other herbs or flavors like dried parsley oregano or parmesan cheese depending upon your choice.

Arrange in a single layer on a baking tray lined with aluminum foil.

Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, turning the sides after 15 minutes.

Bake till the wedges are brown and evenly baked. These should be crispy from outside and soft inside. Use a toothpick or fork to check the doneness.

Serve warm with ketchup or any dip of your choice.

Nutritional benefits of Potatoes.. Rich source of iron, potassium, calcium, and phosphorus. Good source of Vit C, in addition also contains a good concentration of Vit A, Vit B. Avoid frying potatoes in oil as it absorbs more oil and leads to weight gain and increased sugar levels. The concentration of minerals is high in the skin or just beneath the skin, so it always beneficial to have it with skin(cleaned of all dirt and impurities).
