I prefer to use my homemade greek yogurt to make this salad, better to enjoy the creamy salad without any mayo. Making greek yogurt at home is very easy.

Benefits of ingredients of this Creamy Cucumber salad
Cucumbers are synonymous with summers. Since it has about 98% water it is considered as one of the best summer vegetable that keeps us hydrated and cool. These are ideal for detoxification and are a good source of fibre, vitamins(K and C) and minerals like magnesium and potassium. It is known to aid in weight loss, helps in digestion, shows amazing effects on skin and hair, along with many other health benefits.
Greek yogurt, is made made by straining the yogurt. In the process whey gets seperated. Whey contains lactose which is the natural sugar and so greek yogurt has low sugar content. It promotes bone health as it is rich in calcium and protein. Greek Yogurt contains probiotics so it also promotes gut health. Greek yogurt can be used as a substitute for mayo/sour cream and cream in salads, desserts and sandwich fillings.
Dill- It is a very fragrant herb and a good source of calcium, iron, Vit. A and C. It is used in pickled vegetables like pickled cucumbers. Dill is also in salads, you can add it to raita, in dough for making parathas and even used in stir frys and Indian curries.
Ingredients to make Cucumber Dill Salad
Cucumbers, Greek Yogurt, Dill, Onions, White Pepper powder, Red Chilli Flakes, Pink Salt (as per taste), Garlic Powder/freshly minced garlic.
Variations for the salads
- Use any local cucumber variety . Discard seeds if there are seeds in cucumbers like many Indian varieties.
- Instead of Dill you can use add/substitute other herbs like fresh coriander/cilantro or parsley.
- You can skip peeling it if the peel is not too thick.
- You can also add 1-2 tsp of red wine vinegar or lemon juice.
- For more summer freshness boast add cherry tomatoes.
- You can also try adding chaat masala for a tangy Indian twist.
How to make Cucumber Dill Salad
- Slice cucumber in roundles. Do not slice very thinly.
- Marinate cucumbers in 1/2 tsp salt and leave it for 10 mins. Keep it on a colander so that the extra water drains off.
- When ready to make salad, pat dry the cucumbers with a paper towel/tissue.
- Take dill leaves. Nicely wash it and discard the thick stalks.
- Slice onions thinly. Keep in water for about 10 mins. (this takes out the bitter taste from onions). Then strain and keep on colander till further use.
- In a bowl add greek yogurt, add the spices and mix nicely.
- Now add cucumber and dill leaves and mix nicely.
- Chill the salad for at least 30 mins. and serve.
Serving Suggestions
Serve this creamy salad with cucumbers in greek yogurt with meals or simply have it for snacking.
Use it as sandwich filling or in tacos.
Storing leftovers
Refrigerate the leftover salad in an airtight container. Finish it by next day. Cucumbers may leave some water if you don't mariante before making salad.
I do not recommend freezing this salad.
Yes you can use dried dill in creamy cucumber salad. Add about 1-2 tsp.
Can I make Cucumber Salad with greek yogurt ahead
You can make this salad few hrs before serving. On a party day you can cut and slice cucumber and onions and keep separately. Few hrs before serving mix everything, chill and serve it.
Faq's
You can use dried dill leaves instead of fresh leaves. Add about 1 -2 tsp spoon in the recipe.
This salad tastes best when served fresh on the same day. You can refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container and finish it off the next day.
I will not recommend freezing this salad.

- ¼ cup Greek Yogurt
- Handful Dill Leaves as required
- 1 small Onion
- ½ tsp Garlic Powder
- ½-1 tsp Red Chilli Flakes as required
- Salt as per taste
Instructions
- Slice cucumber in roundles. Do not slice very thinly.1-2 Cucumbers
- Marinate cucumbers in 1/2 tsp salt and leave it for 10 mins. Cucumber slices won't leave water when mixed with yogurt.Salt as per taste
- Discard water in which cucumbers were soaked.
- Take dill leaves. Nicely wash it and discard the thick stalks.Handful Dill Leaves
- Slice onions thinly. Keep in water for about 5 mins. (this takes out the bitter taste from onions). Then strain and keep on colander till further use.1 small Onion
- In a bowl add greek yogurt, add the spices and mix nicely. Also add little bit salt to adjust the taste(as we marinated cucumbers in salt)¼ cup Greek Yogurt, ½ tsp Garlic Powder, ½-1 tsp Red Chilli Flakes

- Chill the salad for at least 30 mins. and serve.
