Delhi Style Fruit Chaat Recipe | Learn how to make Indian Fruit Salad | Dilli Ki Fruit Chaat Recipe

Here I am today with an easy peasy 10 min. salad , that is actually needs no recipe for it. Bursting with sweet, tangy and spicy falvours, this Indian Style Fruit Salad or Fruit Chaat in North Indian Style. Popular as Dilli Ki Fruit Chaat or Fruit Salad, it is a riot of flavors from fresh fruits flavors with sweet and tangy Chaat Masala.

Fruit Chaat made with fresh seasonal fruits is always a welcome and refreshing snack for in between hunger pangs . Be it winters or sunny summer days, fruits always freshen up our mood and when mixed with our favourite dressing take that whole medley to another level.

Street Food

It is a well known fact that if you want to know the cuisine of any county/region explore the street food of that region. It is not only cheap and inexpensive but also it introduces us to the whole new food culture of a particular region. India is a diverse country and the diversity is seen in the regional food. Be North Indian Chaats(Aloo Tikki, Kulfi Falooda, Masala Lemonade) or Mumbai's Vada Pav or Pav Bhaji, Fafda and Jalebi from Gujarat to Momos and Thupka in North East.. each state, region has so much to offer when it comes to local food.

Street food is made by the locals of the place and is sold basically on moving (portable) stalls/carts. While known Dine ins and restaurants offer sophistication to the customers, Street food has something some charm that people get hooked to it and line and wait for their favourite stall.

Priya Iyer who blogs at The World Through My Eyes, a treasure of traditional South Indian recipes and many more, suggested this week's theme Indian Street Food, for Foodie Monday Bloghop group. Initially, thought of skipping it as due to recent surgery my daughter is on restricted diet. Making something spicy with chutneys or other masalas or fried was out of question. And street food need some spicy kick.. Then while cutting fruits for the snack time  the Delhi Chaat came to my mind  which is also a street food and I decided to post it for the theme.

Ingredients for Delhi Style Fruit Chaat/Indian Fruit Salad

Take any seasonal fruits fresh fruits. I used Papaya, Banana, Apple, Grapes, Guava, Pomegranate Arils. I also added boiled sweet potato. You can add lightly sautéed boiled potato.

Chaat Masala, Roasted Cumin Powder and Black Salt  mainly spice up the fruits. You can also add red chilli powder for spicy kick. I add chilli flakes on mine and hubby's and skipped in kids' bowl. You can also add freshly ground Black Pepper instead of chilli powder/flakes.

Fresh Mint leaves and Lemon Juice add the freshness and tangy taste. Lemon juice not only enhances the taste of salad, give its balanced taste and also acts on the digestive secretions.

I have skipped fresh mint leaves as it was not availabe with me and used dried mint leaves.

Ingredients Fruit chaat

How to make Fruit Chaat

Simply cube all the fruits , except grapes(add whole or cut in half). Add all the masala , then lemon juice mix and serve. I also like to add a tsp of sugar/jaggery powder(not shown in the pic). It adds a sweet taste to the tangy chaat.

It is best to cut the fruits fresh a few hrs and add masalas and lemon juice just before serving. Just make sure that fruits like apple and banana do not turn brown. Incase you are making it for get together you can cut fruits add lemon juice, keep in an air tight container and refrigerate. Just before serving time add chaat masala and other spices.

There no exact measurement of ingredients for the recipe. You can add whichever fruits you like or are availabe. Also, add spices and salt  as per your taste preferences.
