About the Recipe

Jaljeera is Spiced Summer Drink from India. It is made with fresh mint leaves, coriander leaves/cilantro and spices like roasted cumin powder, black salt and pepper. All the spices and herbs have cooling and digestive properties which help the body to beat the harsh Indian summer heat.

Green Apple Drink Jaljeera

This recipe of Green Apple Jaljeera is a variation of the quintessential Jal Jeera where I have added Green apple along with the spices.

I added a small amount of raw mango since it is summers and green chilli which took the taste of this drink to another level.

It is such a simple recipe which you can adapt as per your taste. It is kids friendly recipe. Skip green chilli when you make for kids.

Make popsicles from this for a guit free icy summer treat.

Health benefits of Green Apple Jaljeera

Green apple is a source of pectin a high fibre source which acts as a prebiotic to promote healthy gut bacteria and promotes digestion. (Source online)

It is also a rich source of vitamins like A, B and C.

Did you know thar Green Apples have twice the amount of Vit. A than red apples!! These are also lower in carbs and calories.

You can use green apples not only for apple pie filling but also in soups, salads, smoothies and detox juices.

Check HERE Apple Pie Filling in Instant Pot recipe here.

I love to add it in salads like this Fenugreek Salad(Methi Sprouts salad), in snacks like Bhel Puri.

Ingredients to make Green Apple Jaljeera

Green Apple- Use Granny Smith (Apples). These have a bit sweet and tart flavour which are much needed for this drink.

Fresh Mint- Adds a refreshing taste and also to the cooling properties of the drink. Add dried mint incase fresh mint is not available.

Raw Mango- I added just a tsp of raw mango which added to the flavour of this drink. It is optional. You can add juice of half lemon if you don't have or want to add raw mango.

Ginger and Green Chilli- Add to flavour and digestive properties. Green chilli in moderate amount is good to consume in harsh summers. You can skip green chilli of you don't want to add or add jalapeno pepper, take out the seeds to reduce the heat.

Jaljeera Powder- Use homemade or store bought. Check out the link below for Homemade Jaljeera Powder at home. Check for it's substitute in recipe card-notes section.

Sweetener- I have used jaggery powder. You can use your regular sugar/maple syrup or honey. Or, can add dates (seedless and soaked in water).

Black Salt- You add sendha namak or Himalayan Pink Salt if you don't have black salt It is available on Amazon or any Indian store(outside India).

How to make Green Apple Jaljeera

It is a very simple and easy one step process. Add all the ingredients in a blender jar, add chilled water and some ice cubes if required and blend smoothly.

Pour in a glass, add with more ice and mint leaves and enjoy!!

Tips to make a perfect chilled glass of Green Apple Drink

  • You can peel green apple. I like to keep the peel as it adds more fibre to this refreshing drink.
  • Add chilled water.
  • Add lemon juice or tamarind water if you don't want to add raw mango or it is not available.
  • You can use dry mint if fresh mint leaves are not available. But, I will advise to use fresh mint leaves which adds a refreshing fresh taste to this summer cooler.

Serving Suggestion

Serve Apple Jaljeera in cocktail style. Mix salt and red chilli powder and keep aside.

Now take a lemon slice and rub it along the rim of the glass. Then coat the rim in salt and chilli mix.

Add ice in glass then the drink. Serve it immediately.
