About the Recipe

These ladoos or you can call these as energy bites are not only delicious and but also nutritious. The main ingredient here is Ragi which a gluten-free flour.

These Ragi Fruit and Nut Ladoos are different from the regular Ragi Ladoos as it does not contain any processed sugar. It has dates, figs, cranberries which are natural sources of sugar and have additional fibre too.

These are guilt free ladoos as these do not contain large amount of ghee. So, anyone can have these without thinking of having to consume much ghee or sugar.

These are a good source way to feed nuts and various dried fruits to kids, as they may get bored of having whole nuts.

Ragi and it's Benefits

Ingredients for Nuts and Dried Fruit Ragi Ladoo

Ragi Flour- Use good quality Ragi Flour. Use fresh flour as old flour may give a rancid aftertaste.

Nuts- You can use Almonds, Walnuts, Hazelnuts and even Pecans.

Dried Fruits- Dates, Figs, Cranberries. I have also added dried mango bits. You can also add raisins, blueberries or aprocits.

Ghee- to roast Ragi flour. You can roast Ragi flour without any ghee but it helps in binding the flour with nuts. Also, it is great source of Vit A ,good for overall health especially for kids.

I followed my blogger friend Renu's(Cook With Renu) recipe Sugarless Ragi Ladoos , which she had posted , just a few days back.

The ladoos came out so good and especially my kids liked these a lot. My hubby who has a sweet tooth relished these a lot . Kids initially thought that these are chocolate and nut ladoos.

How to make Ragi Ladoo without processed sugar

  • Gather all the ingredients.
  • Heat ghee in a pan/kadhai and roast Ragi flour, till it starts giving roasted aroma.
  • When the flour is roasted, take out in a separate plate and let it cool completely.
  • Take the dried fruits and nuts in a food processor, and pulse it to a coarse paste.

Please note, Ragi is already dark in color switch off when the flour starts giving the roasted aroma, else your flour may burn and it may give a bitter taste.

Dates and Nuts Ragi Ladoo recipe

Just when I was about to take the pics, my son asked me whether I am making Chocolate Truffles and asked me to roll these in cocoa powder or dip in chocolate. So I rolled these in hot chocolate mix 😉
