About No Onion Garlic Food

India with it's rich cultural heritage has so many variations in it's language, costumes and dressing, customs and religious practices. With so many variations due to geography/landscape, customs and religious practices there are bound to be variations in food also.

Many Indian communities avoid onion and garlic in food. There are many auspicious days/month like Shraavan month when many people follow a no onion garlic diet. There are also festivals where people fast ( Shivratri, Navratri, Janmashtami) and avoid grains and cereals like wheat, rice, many legumes and cook food without onion and garlic.

Many people also avoid spicy, heavy curries with onion and garlic in summers due to high heat which disturbs the digestive system.

Why No Onion No Garlic Recipes

As mentioned above other than the religious reasons that people follow a sattvic diet., many follow Ayurveda style of living. As per Ayurveda, onion and garlic along with various meats and few other vegetables effect the constitution of our body and increase the body heat. These foods are known as Tamsic/Tamsik food and should be avoided by everyone, especially by those who have digestive problems and also by those on Spiritual path. Food free from onion garlic is has high Pranic/Positive energy and benefits the body in many ways.

Ayurveda Diet

Ayurveda suggests a Sattvic/Satvik diet which promotes purity of mind, body and soul, balances the doshas of body. It also helps to increase the positive energy in body which helps in leading a spiritually balanced life.

Many people who undergo ayurvedic treats are recommended light food without onion and garlic.
