What is Diwali
Diwali, the festival of lights is one of the biggest Hindu festival around the world. The festival symbolizes the victory good over evil
It is the time for deep cleaning of homes, decorations , lot of shopping, it is considered very auspicious to buy new things for homes, new clothes. Like any other festival, Diwali is time to spend with family and loved ones. And, when there is a gathering/celebration, how can one forget food!! one of the most important part of celebrations.
How is Diwali Celebrated
Hindus throughout Bharat/India and the world celebrate Diwali with respect to their own culture and customs. House entrances and the entire house is decorates with Diyas/Earthen Lamps with with oil. Now a days people have started decorating with electrical lights. Rangoli (traditional Hindu decorations on floors) with colors or flowers is also an important part of Diwali decoration.
The festival is celebrated for 5 days each day has it's own significance. Will soon cover the details in a more elaborate post soon.
In North India, many people (like we do) do Laxmi and Ganesh Poojan and offer puffed rice and sugar candy toys known as Khilona (read Khi-Lo-Na) along with other sweets to the Divine.
